Chief electoral officer (CEO) of Jharkhand PK Jajoria confirmed this on Thursday. “We had sent a proposal to the Election Commission of India to make her the state icon for Jharkhand. The commission approved the proposal,” Jajoria added.

Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is already the brand ambassador of Election Commission of India. In a bid to spread awareness about elections among young voters, the CEO office has selected 171 campus ambassadors. They would visit colleges and universities to educate new voters on how to enroll themselves in the voters’ list. The ambassadors will be offered Rs 2,000 as remuneration annually.

The EC has also deployed three awareness observers in the state. Uday More will be the observer for Chatra and Palamu constituencies while Kripa Shankar Yadav will be the observer for Hazaribagh and Lohardaga. Nagendra Swami has been made the observer for Giridih and Ranchi.

The office of the CEO registered 1.63 lakh fresh voters during its two-day special enrollment camp held on March 9 and March 10. Giridih (19,945 voters), Ranchi (19,305), Bokaro (12,008), Dhanbad (12,705) and Seraikela-Kharswan (10,623) were on top of the list. Jharkhand Governor Dr Syed Ahmed filled up form 6 to include his name in the voters’ list.

Meanwhile, the CEO office has received a complaint against BJP. Jajoria said, “We received information that the BJP offered Rs 5.5 crore to an agency for putting up hoardings. We will request the Election Commission to include the amount in the party fund expenditure.”
