It is also an improvement of 3% over the first phase of elections which took place on April 10 when voting was affected in four parliamentary constituencies — Chatra, Palamu, Koderma and Lohardaga. In the first phase, 59.67% turnout was recorded.

Constituency-wise Ranchi registered 58.76% voting, Giridih 62.03%, Jamshedpur 65%, Singhbhum 62.73%, Hazaribagh 61.01% and Khunti 61.04%. Voting also took place at six booths under Bagodar and Rajdhanwar assembly segments of Koderma parliamentary constituency where repolling was ordered by the Election Commission, following disruption due to technical snag and vandalising of EVMs in the first phase of polls. In the second phase, a total of 52% polling was registered at these booths.

PK Jajoria, the chief electoral officer of Jharkhand, said, “Barring one incident at Lugu Pahari in Bokaro where extremists blew up a CRPF vehicle, everywhere else the polls went off peacefully.”

The CEO said `1.68 crore in cash, 10 gm of gold and 18 kg of silver were seized. He added that 6.46 crore litre of liquor worth `51.04 lakh was also seized during 2,251 raids.
