Jamshedpur celebrated the 175th birth anniversary of its founder Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata on Monday amidst the usual pomp and glare.
The famous tradition of lighting up the Jubilee Park, however, was postponed on account of the recent rain which had made the installation of electrical lighting risky.
The tradition to celebrate March 3 as the ‘foundation day’ for the city is an annual affair and a panorama of colorful events this year was no different.
The ‘foundation day’ celebration was kicked off with a host of dignitaries paying homage to the founder at his statue near the Tata Steel Works main gate.
Cyrus Mistry, the chairman of Tata Sons, flagged off a Founder’s Day pageantry near the General Post Office at Bistupur at 9.30 am.
The famous illumination of the Jubilee Park, though postponed by a day, would compensate for the delay with the magnificence that will leave previous years’ illumination behind, Ashish Mathur, managing director of JUSCO said.
This year the illumination will be extended to the roads leading to and radiating from the park. But the celebrations will not be limited to this park alone. Other parks in the city, including Nildih Park, Bhetia Park, Kadma Children’s Park, Golmuri Park, Baridih picnic-cum-joggers Park will also light up in unison, Mathur added.
The special attraction for the day, however, was a ‘Dare Devil Show’ at Gopal Maidan in the afternoon. The jaw dropping stunts by the Punjab regiment stallions was a huge success with the crowd.
