Jharkhand girl allegedly sold in marriage to Rajasthan man for ₹80,000; parents file complaint
A police official said that they are in the process of filing an FIR on the basis of the complaint filed by the victim’s father.
A tribal girl from Chakulia block under East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand was allegedly sold off to a man in Dholpur, Rajasthan for ₹80,000 by three youths from her village.
The matter came to light after the 27-year-old victim’s parents filed a written complaint with the Chakulia police station couple of days ago, police said on Tuesday.
“We are in the process of lodging an FIR on the basis of the complaint by the victim’s father. We are searching for the three youths named in the complaint and will interrogate them before sending a team to Rajasthan. The girl’s father had lodged a missing diary about a month back after she went missing. Now the case has taken a different turn as he told us that he had gone to Rajasthan with one of the youths and met his daughter,” said Nityanand Mahato, Chakulia officer-in-charge (OC).
The OC further said it’s crucial to interrogate one Ravi Gope as the victim’s father has said that Ravi had taken him to Dholpur where he met his missing daughter who pleaded with him to take her back home while crying profusely.
“But he found that the man who allegedly bought his daughter has married her and demanded ₹80, 000 back to release her. The man’s family threatened him and drove him away while Ravi fled from the scene,” Mahato said, quoting the complaint.
As per available information, Kharbandha resident Manik Gope used to frequently visit the victim’s family and about one-and-a-half months ago when her parents were away on their farm, Gope lured the girl away . Subsequently, Manik Gope and two of his relatives Ravi Gope and Samant Gope took her to Dholpur in Rajasthan and allegedly sold her off to a man for ₹80, 000.
Meanwhile, the girl’s parents kept searching for their daughter in houses of their relatives and filed a missing diary in Chakulia police station. After coming to know that their daughter was in Rajasthan, the girl’s father met Manik and demanded that his daughter be brought back at any cost following which Ravi Gope took him to Dholpur on August 20. But the man’s family allegedly scared him away while Ravi fled.
According to the girl’s father, he somehow managed to return to Chakulia and met BJP leaders Sameer Mohanty and Shambhunath Mallick on Monday.
“I have requested them to help me get my daughter back from Rajasthan. I have also lodged a complaint with Chakulia PS and told him about my daughter’s ordeal,” he added.
