Modi has no time for Ranchi; candidate says ‘wave’ is enough

Modi addressed public meetings in Palamu, Chatra, Jamshedpur and Koderma before the first phase of the elections. He is expected to visit Hazaribagh, Dhanbad and Dumka on Tuesday, the last day of campaigning for the second phase of the general elections here.

However, Ranchi would not witness Modi rally before the polling, which would be conducted in the second phase on April 17.

Second phase of polling would be conducted in Giridih, Ranchi, Singbhum, Khunti and Hazaribagh constituencies. It is worth mentioning that since one month, Modi has landed four times at the Ranchi airport and flown to other Jharkhand constituencies for campaigning without addressing his supporters here.

Last time, Modi visited Ranchi on December 29 during his Vijay Sankalp Rally.

Modi’s visit in the constituency, which is likely to witness one of the most interesting battles with AJSU chief Sudesh Mahto, Congress MP Subodh Kant Sahai and cop turned politician JVM’s Amitabh Choudhary in the race, was highly anticipated prior to the polling date. However, the party PM candidate’s schedule for Jharkhand visits prove that the party candidate here will have to rely entirely on his credentials without a full-fledged Modi boost.

BJP’s Ranchi candidate Choudhary believes that the Modi wave is running strong in the constituency and the party will get a lot of support from Modi-fiers here. However, he agreed that a visit by the prime ministerial candidate would have filled the vacuum.

“He (Modi) has to campaign across India. It is not possible for him to visit all constituencies,” Choudhary said, adding that the Modi wave in Ranchi was strong enough to ensure a BJP victory.

However, Choudhary admitted that a Modi campaign here would be missed. “It would have been an icing on the cake had he visited Ranchi prior to the polling,” Choudhary said.
