After Visaaranai, Vetrimaaran to adapt another book into a film
Visaaranai director Vetrimaaran will now adapt another book into a feature film. Based on Neelima Kota’s Shoes of the Dead, the film will focus on farmers’ suicide.
After his critically-acclaimed Tamil film Visaaranai, filmmaker Vetrimaaran is preparing for his next project--he has bought the rights for the book Shoes of the Dead by writer Neelima Kota, which focuses on farmers’ suicides.
“Thanks Vetrimaaran for choosing my book Shoes of the Dead for a movie. Farmer suicides have waited long for spotlight,” Neelima posted on her Twitter page on Wednesday.

The film will be produced by Vetrimaaran’s home banner, Grass Root Film Company. The National Award winning filmmaker’s Visaaranai was also partly based on Tamil novel Lock Up. Vetrimaaran is among the most exciting Tamil filmmakers today. His debut film Polladhavan (2007) won him critical acclaim while his second feature Aadukalam (2011) won five National Film Awards.
