On January 26, Sujay Dahake will turn a year older. The Shala (2012) director, who has finished the shooting of his next film Kesari, is currently busy with the post production of the same.
Sujay’s birthday falls on Republic Day and if the director is in town, then he makes it a point to visit his alma mater Jnana Prabodhini Prashala for the flag hoisting ceremony on this day. He says, “It is kind of a ritual to attend the flag hoisting first thing in the morning on my birthday. This year, however, I am planning to travel. I may visit Kerala for a week or so. I will leave on Thursday and be back by the end of the month.” Another passion that Sujay has been pursuing lately is gardening. “I have recently realised my passion for everything green, so I keep adding new plants and saplings to my garden. It is a therapeutic and healing.”
Kesari is a film on wrestling. The film’s plot explores the various techniques of keeping fit. Sujay says, “It is a fitness oriented movie, which highlights the importance of natural endurance more than gym training.” After Kesari, Sujay will begin work for the release of Tujhya Aila, a children’s film about verbal violence and slang. He says, “We have sent it for selection process at various film festivals. The plan is to work on Kesari’s release, and by that time Tujhya Aila will have made festival rounds. The film throws light on the age we learn to use verbal slangs. It follows a young boys quest to learn the meaning behind slangs and why all verbal slangs are patriarchal and derogatory towards the female gender and most importantly ‘the mother’.”
