Director Ravi Jadhav is nervous about people accepting him as an actor. However, the director, who will be seen in front of the camera for the first time, is not looking at it as a constant. Ravi says, “My father always pushed me to explore. He always said that one should step out of their comfort zone and experiment. He did not like the fact that people just concentrate on one job all their life. I decided to take the plunge on actor-turned-director Prasad Oak’s insistence and the fact that my father asked me to attempt everything.”
The Banjo director (2016) will be seen in the role of a special child’s father, who has to work at nights and take care of the child during the day. “This role was difficult to prepare for as I had to give up sleep and put on 10 kg to look the part. I tried my best to do justice to the role. I feel as an actor I still have a lot to learn, especially when I saw stellar performances by Sonali Kulkani, Sachin Khedekar and Anant Mahedevan. I make my actors toil on the sets, so I had to put in more than 100 per cent when I was in front of the camera.”
Till Prasad offered Ravi the role, the latter had never thought of acting or taking up roles in front of the camera. “I was shocked and surprised when Prasad offered me the role. While he was narrating the script I was under the impression that he is looking at a director or producer. I am glad he thought I was capable of portraying the character. His trust in me gave me confidence.”
Was he tempted to take over the nuances of direction while on the sets? “There were times when I wanted to suggest or make changes. But, I refrained as it was not right as an artist.” The director is currently readying his film Nude to be sent to film festivals across.
