Rajinikanth set the ball rolling for the new Tamil film VIP2 on Thursday by giving the ‘mahurat’ clap followed by a pooja in Chennai. The film is a sequel to the 2014’s hit film, Velaiilla Pattadhari (Unemployed Graduate), popularly called VIP, which starred Dhanush and Amala Paul. VIP2 will repeat the lead cast but Soundarya Rajinikanth will take on the director’s role. Velraj directed the first film.

Kabali producer Kalaipuli S Thanu will bankroll the film, which will be shot in Tamil and Telugu. Sean Roldan (Indian musician Raghavendra) will compose the film’s music while Anirudh Ravichander’s background score from the first part will be retained.
Velaiilla Pattadhari revolves around a civil engineering graduate who is unemployed but is insistent on working in his chosen field. He eventually does get a job but he must fight to keep it.
