With majority portion of superstar Rajinikanth’s 2.0 already shot, the makers are busy wrapping up the most important climax sequence and a couple of songs. The team has taken a brief break as both Akshay Kumar, who is being introduced as the antagonist to Tamil filmdom, and Rajinikanth are currently busy with their respective commitments. Meanwhile, Shankar is making arrangements to film the climax scene which will be shot on a lavish budget and on a never seen before scale. According to recent rumours, Shankar will be shooting two climax sequences and a decision to finally lock one will be made closer to release date.
An assistant director denied these reports, however. “These reports are absolutely bull**** and someone close to Shankar sir will never say such a thing. Shankar sir is holidaying and all the shootings have been done except for one song, which is yet to be shot and once Rajini sir’s dates are free, we’ll do that but that’s not the climax,” he said.
The source continued, “We have ended the rest of the shooting and climax long back, and even dubbing is over and VFX is going on. Shankar sir is someone who will analyze the script before the shooting. And more than that, the previs [pre-visualisation] of the climax was done in Los Angeles in December itself and it went for nearly three months, so that we can plan the shots and action sequences.”
“Choreography was done by Shankar sir but people who did all the execution were from outside, along with the action director of Transformers, so we had to give those technicians what they wanted to shoot,” he said. “Right from the number of shots in a day to scene-wise schedule, we went for high-precision filming, as they are very high-end people over there and we can’t mess with them. We shot the climax by March or April and everything is locked and you can see the whole previs in 2D format. If at all something has to be done, Rajini sir and Akshay sir won’t object because these two actors are very professional and they respect thoughts, ideas and decisions that Shankar sir takes. They have been an absolute brilliant and stick to the point where if Shankar sir tells them to do something, they will do it. They were very clear on what Shankar sir wanted. They all saw the previs, as it was done way before, so there is no way they can ask for a change in the climax. Moreover, this is Rajini’s sir third movie with Shankar and he has never told anything like that.”

The project is bankrolled by Lyca Productions. The film’s satellite rights across all languages were recently bagged by Zee Network for a whopping Rs 100 crore, making it the highest amount paid for an Indian film. Tipped to be the most expensive Indian film being made on a budget of Rs 450 crore, 2.o is slated for release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi next year in a record number of screens worldwide.
Both Akshay and Shankar however, denied reports of two climaxes being filmed.
