Mudd mudd ke na dekh, mudd mudd ke... The famous song by Manna Dey might soon become the mantra for many men. As per a recent statement by Kerala Excise Commissioner Rishiraj Singh, staring at a woman for longer than 14 seconds can get a man booked. The statement has drawn flak from people across the country. HT City speaks to a few students from Delhi University (DU) to find out their take on it.

“14 seconds main kitni love stories shuru ho sakti thi ab unka kya hoga yaar? Vaise bhi kitne solution hote hai, shades laga ke 1 min ghoor lein toh? Aur shades nah bhi lagayein toh ladki kaha 15 seconds stare karke check karegi ki usne mujhe 14 seconds dekha ya nahi?” says Shubham Vaish, 3rd Year, Ramjas College.

{{/usCountry}}“Agar ladki 14 seconds se jyada ghoore to use bhi jail mein daal doge kya? Every time the rules are made for boys, what if the girl did the same thing? This is very funny. First we need to curb molestation and serious crimes against women and then come out with weird rules like these,” Mayank Garg, 2nd year, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College.

“Ab is rule ke hisab se to saare ladka jail ke piche honge. Bollywood main to saari love stories aise hi shuru hoti hai. Ladka ladki ko dekhta hai aur pyaar ho jata hai, aur ab is rule ke baad ye scope to khatam,” says Piyush Ashok, 1st year student of Hansraj College.

“Such laws will ultimately lead to the misuse of the power. People at higher posts should think before speaking in front of public. The intention should be good. What if I am looking at a girl to admire her beauty? Tanashah thodi hai?” says Taranjeet Singh, a 2nd year student of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College.
