The uterine lining, blood vessels and the female body prepare themselves for the implantation of the zygote. When fertilisation does not occur, the inner lining of the uterus sheds. This is the cause for the menstrual cycle. Usually females get their period once a month. There are many exceptions. Please avoid unprotected sex prior to marriage. The risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and unwanted pregnancy is too great.
