It’s a good day to start a new family tradition. Here’s how you can celebrate Valentine’s Day with your parents, siblings, children and loved ones.

It’s that time of the year, when love is the most popular emotion across the world. While popular culture makes you believe that Valentine’s Day is only for love-struck couples, it’s a day of love, and that love can be for anyone. Thus, all kinds of love should be celebrated; whether it is for your parents, your siblings or your children.

Here are some fun ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family.

Make these heart-shaped pancakes for your parents on Valentine’s Day.

Heart-shaped breakfast: Surprise your parents with heart-shaped pancakes, sunny-side up or sandwiches made with heart shaped cutters. If you have young kids in the house, you can take their help to decorate the pancakes with fruits, sprinkles, chocolate chips and other interesting toppings.

Decorate the house: You can pick various themes or simply stick photos of your family around the house. This will act as a loving and gentle reminder of all the fun times you’ve spent together. Mix it up with hearts made of sticky-notes.

A word of appreciation: Cook up a special meal either during lunch or dinner, gather all the family members to eat together. Take turns to appreciate each other with anecdotes or sweet gestures that you may have experienced. You’ll be surprised to know how much your children love you or how much your parents think about you.

Spread the love: Pick out some extra valentines, like your house help, your gardener, your grocer and give them small gifts of appreciation. Love only increases when you share it.

Movie Night: Pick a family favourite and make a night out of it. Add some popcorns and age-appropriate drinks to the mix.
