CALGARY (CANADA): Indian shuttlers Ajay Jayaram and B Sai Praneeth advanced to the semifinals of the $55,000 Canada Open Grand Prix badminton tournament after notching up contrasting victories. Top seeded Jayaram defeated fellow Indian Harsheel Dani 21-18, 19-21, 21-8. Jayaram will face Korea’s Lee Hyun Il, seeded third, in the semifinals.

Fourth seed Praneeth too made it to the final four after brushing aside eighth seed Raul Must of Estonia 21-14, 21-16 to set up a clash against Frenchman Brice Leverdez, who beat second seed H S Prannoy 22-20, 21-23, 18-21.
MIXED MARTIAL ARTS LEAGUE FROM AUGUST 26
NEW DELHI: World’s first Mixed Martial Arts League will be held in India from August 26October 1. The dates of the event called Super Fight League was announced on Saturday in the presence of twice boxing world champion Amir Khan, who is the chairman of the league.
96 fighters are due to represent eight teams — Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Haryana, Bangalore, Punjab, Pune and Goa. Each team will have nine Indian and three international fighters.
There will also be a women’s category. In all, 72 bouts will be held followed by the semi finals, a fourth-place match and the final.
