KINGSTON: Usain Bolt has left the door open to running in both the 100 and 200 metres at next year’s world championships where he said he will be more focused on protecting his legacy than topping his world records.
The Jamaican, who last month drew down the curtain on his Olympic career by securing a sweep of the sprint titles for a third successive Games, said his plan was to only contest the 100m in London but that his coach has other ideas.
“That’s the plan, but I still have to discuss it with my coach,” Bolt told Television Jamaica on Tuesday. “(Glen Mills) still wants me to do the double, but I’ve told him I would really like to just do the 100m, so at the start of the season we’ll decide exactly what (to focus on), but that’s what’s on my mind.”

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s world No 1 Lee Chong Wei said a new scoring format could tempt him to extend his career to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and take yet another shot at an elusive badminton gold medal.
The 33-year-old’s interest has been piqued by the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) experiments with an 11-point, best-of-five system, which is considered less physically demanding and therefore better for older players, instead of the traditional 21-point, best-of-three format.
FRANCE’S MONFILS OUT OF DAVIS CUP SEMIS
ZADAR, CROATIA: France received a second blow ahead of their Davis Cup World Group semi-final clash in Croatia with US Open semi-finalist Gael Monfils ruled out Wednesday with a knee injury.
World No 8 Monfils pulled up with a bad pain in his knee during training, aggravating an injury he picked up on his arrival at his hotel in Zadar.
France are already without Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who was forced out of his US Open quarterfinal clash with Novak Djokovic with a left knee problem. Richard Gasquet who had been called up in to replace Tsonga, will now fulfil singles duties, along with 18th-ranked Lucas Pouille.
The two countries have met once before in 2004, with France winning 4-1 winners in Metz. The winner will meet either defending champions Great Britain or Argentina in November’s final.
