MANCHESTER: Spanish midfielder Manu Garcia has joined La Liga outfit Alaves on a season-long loan from Premier League side Manchester City, both clubs announced on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old, who arrived at City’s youth academy in 2013 from Sporting Gijon, is under contract with the English club until June 2017.
A statement from Alaves read: “Deportivo Alaves has secured the services of Manu Garcia, a young and promising player from Manchester City.
“The talented footballer, arrives on a season-long loan and with a lot of enthusiasm to showcase his talent in the La Liga Santander.”
City also confirmed the move on their twitter account and wrote: “Manu Garcia has joined La Liga side Alaves on a season long loan...Good luck Manu!”
BURNLEY SIGN DEFOUR TO BREAK CLUB RECORD
LONDON: Belgian international midfielder Steven Defour became Premier League newboys Burnley’s record signing on Tuesday with the English club spending a reported £7.5million (8.6m euros, $9.7m) to lure him away from Anderlecht.
The 28-year-old — capped 46 times and played for Belgium at the 2014 World Cup — signed a three-year contract and his fee eclipsed the £6m paid for striker Andre Gray last year.
SUNDERLAND SELL BRIDCUTT TO LEEDS
LONDON: Leeds United have signed Scotland midfielder Liam Bridcutt from Sunderland on a two-year contract, the two clubs confirmed on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old spent time on loan at Leeds last season, making 24 league appearances after joining in November, and has now made a permanent return for an undisclosed fee.
