GLASGOW: Andy Murray is itching for a break after an exhausting few months, the world number two said, after defending champions Britain were knocked out by Argentina 3-2 in the Davis Cup semi-final.

The 29-year-old had a busy European summer when he reached the French Open final, followed by his second Wimbledon triumph, and then successfully defended his Olympic gold at Rio.
A tired Murray then lost to Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open.
Murray was involved in both the singles and doubles matches in the Davis Cup semi-finals defeat against Argentina, including a five-hour marathon against Juan Martin del Potro.
“I have played so much tennis in the last few months, I need a break and I need it now,” Murray was quoted as saying by the Times.

PUIG BACK TO WINNING WAYS
TOKYO: Olympic champion Monica Puig on Monday thrashed American Varvara Lepchenko 6-0, 6-3 at the Pan Pacific Open to register her first win since winning a stunning gold in Rio.
Puig had beaten Germany’s Angelique Kerber in the Olympic final to nab Puerto Rico’s first ever gold medal. “A win is a win for me,” shrugged the world number 33 after her first-round victory in rainy Tokyo. She had crashed out of the US Open in the first round.
DODIN BAGS MAIDEN WTA TITLE
MONTREAL: France’s Oceane Dodin, ranked 132nd in the world, won her first WTA title on Sunday in her first final, defeating American Lauren Davis 6-4, 6-3 in Quebec City.
Dodin, 19, fired eight aces in the one-hour, 38-minute contest to cap a dream week. She had twice reached the second round of major tournaments in 2015, but until this week had never won a main-draw match outside of the Grand Slams.
