NEW DELHI: The fear of contracting dengue and chikangunya had a serious impact on the crowd on Day 1. Barring a few hundred school kids (wearing full-sleeved shirts and salwar kurta), there were few takers for the free 500th Test T-shirts and ‘ladoo’ being distributed. UP Cricket association volunteers, carrying the bags of 12,000 special designed T-shirts were roaming beyond the Green Park ropes, but didn’t find enough takers in the stands. Other than the students’ gallery, most of the stands saw few fans and even they were there to cheer the former captains on their being felicitated before the match began. “Everybody is concerned about his or her health and that’s the reason people have chosen to watch the match sitting at home,” said a UPCA official.
