Third-seed Chile’s Fernando Gonzalez, back from a knee injury, lost to Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-4 in a second-round match. American Donald Young fell in his second-round match to Argentinian Juan Ignacio Chela, 5-7, 6-4 6-0.
In the women’s draw, Maria Kirilenko beat last year’s finalist Elena Vesnina 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in the first round. Marion Bartoli of France got by Ukraine’s Alona Bondarenko 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2), 6-3 and Samantha Stosur beat Italian Sara Errani 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (4) in the final women’s match on Tuesday night.
