David Beckham will not travel with the Los Angeles Galaxy for Tuesday's SuperLiga game at FC Dallas because of soreness in his injured left ankle.
Beckham had been recovering but was still not right and on Monday morning it was decided 'that there's no way,' Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said.
"The swelling's not bad," Yallop said. "It's just the soreness from the scar tissue, to be honest, that's in there right now and they're just working it out. And it's just there's a lot to work out and they're just getting through and getting the ankle more stable."
Yallop said, "Uncomfortable is more the word than pain."
Beckham watched from the sideline on Saturday night at the Los Angeles Coliseum as Chivas defeated the Galaxy 2-1. He also missed the Galaxy's 2-1 victory over Pachuca in its SuperLiga opener a week ago.
He has played just 16 minutes, including four minutes of stoppage time, in one exhibition game since joining the Galaxy on July 13.
Beckham turned the ankle on June 6 during England's 3-0 victory over Estonia. Yallop said Beckham played on painkillers in his last game with Real Madrid on June 17.
"I think it just basically stemmed from that. When you don't feel it, you know, you tend to swell up a little bit, and then he started to work on it right before he started to come back for us," the coach said. "He didn't feel any pain before, but then he started to work out on it and t kind of blew up and was getting really sore."
