Juniors play hard

After the ouster of the top seed, it was now the turn of the sixth seed to be defeated in the boys’ U-16 event. Richie Agarwal from Bengal fought tooth and nail before bowing out to Alex Solanki 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship at DLTA on Tuesday.

After the ouster of the top seed, it was now the turn of the sixth seed to be defeated in the boys’ U-16 event. Richie Agarwal from Bengal fought tooth and nail before bowing out to Alex Solanki 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship at DLTA on Tuesday.

Dhruv Pal, who had ousted the top seed, was again stretched to three sets before edging out qualifier Lalmachhuana 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. However, it was an easy round for second seed Fatehdeep Singh. The junior Davis Cupper thrashed Raswant Ravi 6-2, 6-3. Third seed Jude Raymond also got rid of his opponent in straight sets as he beat Sai Nikhil 6-3, 7-5.

Easy drawThere were no surprises in the boys' U-14 event as the top two seeds made in to the next round with easy victories. While Sachin Kumar beat Rishab Dahiya 6-1, 6-3, Vishnu Prasad thrashed Ammarnath Arora 6-2, 6-2.

With the girls events underway from Tuesday, top seeded junior Snehadevi Reddy coasted to an easy 6-1, 6-3 win in the U-16 category. The junior Fed Cupper beat S Samriti.
