Karun wins MSLTA-ITF

This was the second title for Singh in the tournament after he and Abhijeet Tiwari defeated the British duo of Lewis Barnes and Mathew Thompson 6-1 6-2.

Top seed Karun Uday Singh won the boys' singles title of the MSLTA-ITF tennis tournament after defeating unseeded Italian Riccardo Sinicropi in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in the finals here on Saturday.

This was the second title for Singh in the tournament as he was crowned the doubles champion on Friday after he and Abhijeet Tiwari defeated the British duo of Lewis Barnes and Mathew Thompson 6-1 6-2.

Karun Uday, who has so far won 20 matches on the trot, said he at his best throughout the tournament.

"It has been a great year for me, first winning the tournament in Gurgaon and then here. It's two for the year," said Karun Uday.

However, bad luck struck again for girls' title hopeful Tanvi Shah as she lost to second seed Israeli Angelika Aliev 6-3 6-2 in the finals.

Tanvi looked in top form but lost her way after breaking Angelika in the third game. The Israeli recovered well by playing agressive tennis and made Tanvi earn her points.

Into the second set, Tanvi pulled her calf muscle and the physio was called in to examine her. The second seed capitalised on Tanvi's injury and took a lead of 5-0 in the second set.

"The tour of India has been great. I won it in Guwahati, Gurgaon and now in Mumbai. I had defeated Tanvi in the previous tournament so I had few plans for her," Angelika told PTI.

Aliev felt that her opponent could have played better if it wasn't for her injury which hampered her movement on the field.

"She played really well through-out the tournament, its just hard luck," said Angelika.

The Israeli, who admires Australian Lleyton Hewitt said she would now be travelling to South America to play more ITF tournaments from January.

Shah, who won the doubles with Rashmi Teltumbde on Friday said her hectic schedule took its toll and the injury made matters worse.
