The 22-year-old was on Wednesday named the 14th seed for the year's third grand slam but he was forced to withdraw from last week's Queen's Club tournament after falling and injuring his wrist in a second-round win over Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev.

Monfils, who also missed last year's Wimbledon with a shoulder injury, will be replaced by a lucky loser from qualifying.

Prakash falls at final hurdle

Prakash Amritraj's hopes of making to the Wimbledon draw were dashed by American Michael Yani 6-3, 5-7, 3-6, 4-6 in the Wimbeldon final qualifying round in London on Thursday.

Prakash, ranked 154, would have fancied his chances against 28-year-old Yani whom he had beaten in the only meeting earlier this year and more so after he walked away with the first set without much difficulty.

However, Yani came back strongly in the second set and with a decisive break in the 12th game to make it set-all.

The American, with a break in the fourth game, jumped to a 4-1 lead in third set.
