The third seeded Indian pair, who received a bye in the first round, was shocked by Americans John Isner and Sam Querrey 3-6, 6-3, 5-10 in the red clay tournament in Rome on Wednesday.

Paes and Bhupathi will split $8,540 for their second round appearance.
