Shahar Peer serves both on the court and off it. The 20-year-old Israeli, who reached the second round by beating Thailand’s Tamarine Tanasugarn 7-5, 6-2, is also in her country's military. "Whenever I'm home ... I have to do a few hours a day," Peer said. "Now I just do a lot of things in the office, but the basic training I had at the beginning was different. Peer reached the quarters at a Grand Slam event for the first time this year, beating Svetlana Kuznetsova at the Australian Open.

Centre court love affair turns sour for FedEx

Roger Federer will have no complaints if he is shunted off Wimbledon's Centre Court for his second round match this week. The world number one, bidding for a fifth straight men's singles title at the All England Club, is not enamoured of the way the main show court has this year been left completely exposed to the elements as a result of preparatory work for the creation of a new retractable roof in time for the 2009 Championship.
