Players’ body seeks patel’s intervention

Accusing the All India Football Federation (AIFF) of making players ‘easy targets’, the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) said they were “shocked” at Sameer Naik and Mahesh Gawli being suspended for not joining the national camp.

Accusing the All India Football Federation (AIFF) of making players ‘easy targets’, the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) said they were “shocked” at Sameer Naik and Mahesh Gawli being suspended for not joining the national camp.

The FPAI, with Bhaichung Bhutia as president, has sought AIFF president Praful Patel’s intervention, hoping he would deliver “a just decision.”

Naik and Gawli, both Dempo players, have served India “with sincerity and commitment for over a decade”, a FPAI release said. AIFF has given Dempo till Monday to reply why action shouldn’t be taken against them.
