“Ronaldo returned from Washington DC (on Monday) with a common type of flu and has been told to rest at home and has been prescribed medication,” Real said in a statement.

Ronaldo had already shown flu symptoms on Sunday, when the Spanish club beat DC. United 3-0 in Washington in an exhibition match, the club said.

Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz called up Lazio winger Eliseu to replace Ronaldo for the game in Vaduz. Portugal are away to Liechtenstein on Wednesday.
