Somdev and Huey, teammates at University of Virginia, lost in one hour and 56 minutes on Sunday.
The two got off to a strong start in their first ATP World Tour doubles final to go up 3-0 but squandered the advantage as Knowles and Malisse won the next five games.
The Bahamian-Belgian duo had two set points on Malisse's serve at 5-3 but failed to close out. They took the first set after winning the tie-break.
The two teams traded breaks to send the second set to another tie-break, where Knowles and Malisse prevailed once again.
