The iPhone 17 series is finally here with sales starting in just 2 days. The smartphone will ship with iOS 26 pre-installed, bringing new Liquid Glass UI, Apple Intelligence features, app updates, and more. However, the iPhone 17 has a new battery-saving feature dubbed “Adaptive Power mode”, which is enabled by default. Whereas other compatible iOS 26 iPhones will have to activate the feature manually. But, how does the battery-saving mode really impact the battery life and the overall user experience? Therefore, let’s understand in detail how the iOS 26 Adaptive Power mode works on iPhone 17 series and other models.

How does the Adaptive Power mode work on iPhone 17?
Apple first announced the Adaptive Power mode with the introduction of iOS 26 at WWDC 2025. As the name suggests, this mode is said to analyse user behaviour and day-to-day usage with the help of AI, and restrict certain tasks to provide extra battery life. Based on collected data, it will automatically adjust power levels to provide a lasting performance. However, this battery mode may not be able to adjust or restrict tasks if you’re conducting heavy tasks like using the camera app, playing heavy games with Game mode enabled, and others.
It should also be noted that the iPhone 17 users may not be able to take full advantage of Adaptive Power mode since Apple has stated that it will take at least seven days of processing to analyse and understand the user interface with their device. Once it has analysed the pattern, it could make performance adjustments to provide users with longer battery life. Apart from the battery-saving mode, iPhone 17 will also activate the Low Power Mode when the phone reaches 20%.
Therefore, this feature may come as an advantage to iPhone 17 users in extending their usage. In addition, all models have received a significant battery upgrade, already making them powerful compared to predecessors. However, we still have doubts over the iPhone Air, since it has a smaller battery. But to compensate, Apple has included the iOS 26 Adaptive Power mode, and offers a new battery pack that sells separately to the phone.
