T Samyuktha, a 17-year-old intermediate student, committed suicide in her hostel room at Sri Chaitanya Junior College, Hyderabad, on Thursday morning.

Her roommates were away for breakfast when the incident occurred.

Police said Samyuktha, who hailed from Ranampalli village in Nizamabad district, was undergoing long-term coaching for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) to gain admission to an MBBS course. A suicide note recovered from the spot revealed that she was finding it difficult to concentrate on her studies, and had scored poorly in practice tests.

In another incident, a final-year B Tech student hanged herself at her residence in Suraram Colony, under the Dundigal police station limits, late on Wednesday night.

Police said C Mounika, a 21-year-old student of the Malla Reddy Engineering College, took the extreme step after her mother scolded her for spending too much time fiddling with electronic gadgets.

Mounika was declared dead on arrival at the Narayana Hridayalaya hospital.

In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, 15-year-old Chipurupalli Malathi committed suicide by consuming pesticide at her residence in Sikhabadi village, Vizianagaram district, on Thursday morning. Police said the Class 10 student was depressed over the frequent quarrels between her parents.

In the fourth incident, 16-year-old S Poorna Lakshmi Narasimha Murthy – a pre-university student at the Indian Institute of Information Technology in Nuzvid – hanged himself from a ceiling fan in his hostel room on Wednesday night. Murthy ended his life while his roommates were out for dinner.

Though no suicide note was found in his possession, police believe mounting academic pressure had spurred him to take the extreme step.
