India's gold rush in the tennis events continued as Sania Mirza and Rushmi Chakravarthy lifted the women's doubles title to complete a triple and a double respectively in the inaugural Afro-Asian Games on Friday.
In a lacklustre final, the top seeded Indian pair managed to find their rhythm in time to down Indonesia's Stephanie Rosa Maya and Septi Mende 7-6 (2) 6-3 and give the hosts the fourth gold in the competition.
Sania, who has already won the singles gold after leading India to the team title along with Rushmi, is headed for a grand quadruplet as she along with grand slam champion Mahesh Bhupathi is to play in the final of the mixed doubles later on Friday.
The match turned out to be a drab affair with both the pairs putting up a below par performance and yielded advantage time and again after breaking each other's services.
All the four committed a lot of errors as they failed to hold their serves, but the Indians managed to lift their game in the crucial tie-break after the set saw a total of seven breaks. Sania's forehand shots lacked consistency once again.
The Indonesian, who poured cold water on 1-2 finish for India by defeating Sonal Phadke and Megha Vakharia in a tough three-set semifinal on Thursday, held the upper hand slightly in the first set as they played far better than the rivals, but crumbled under pressure.
