Low-intensity ‘blast’ in Punjab’s Batala

Police officials familiar with the development said a “loud sound” was heard near a house, which is stated to be owned by a relative of a policeman. It is unclear what triggered the “explosion”, they said.

The “explosion” damaged the floor outside a house and shattered its glass window. No one was injured.

Gangster wanted in 2 murder cases killed in Batala encounter

The slain gangster was identified as Ranjit Singh Rana, a resident of Marari village in Amritsar district, said DIG (border range) Satinder Singh. The injured cop is out of danger and was referred to a hospital in Amritsar.

A gangster, who was wanted in two murder cases, was killed in an encounter with the police at Pul Sua village falling under the Rangar Nangal Police station in Batala on Wednesday late night. A cop was also injured in the exchange of fire. (Representational image)

BJP’s Gurdaspur nominee Babbu faces farmers’ wrath

The BJP candidates and leaders have been facing protests from the farmers who have shown them black flags when they were campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls.
