Defence minister Rajnath Singh took a decision in favour of shorter 4.5km tunnel proposal of Border Roads Organisation but the order could not be issued as all the top officials involved in the project were hit by coronavirus.

Five engineers stranded at Sarchu in Himachal rescued after nine-hour operation

The engineers were returning after repairing army vehicles in Nubra Valley on November 15 when their vehicle broke down at Sarchu and they were stranded due to heavy snowfall with the temperature dipping to minus 15 degrees.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi apparently had a detailed discussion with the BRO chief at the Atal Tunnel site and told him that road infrastructure on the border areas must be speeded up so that Indian troops can patrol up to the last point.

Usually, Rohtang Pass is officially closed for traffic on November 15 and reopened in May for which snow clearance begins in March. This is for the first time that the BRO took up the challenge to clear the stretch after intermittent snowfall.

Uttarakhand government starts providing essential items to areas near China border

On October 11, responding to a PIL, the Uttarakhand HC directed the state government to provide necessary rations and other essential items within 24 hours to villages near the China border through helicopter and maintain regular supplies through the same till the winter season is over. These villages have been cut off from the rest of the state as the BRO is constructing a road in the area.
