Photos: Cyclone Yaas weakens after hitting the coasts of Odisha and Bengal

Heavy winds and sea waves hit the shore at Digha beach on the Bay of Bengal coast as Cyclone Yaas intensified on May 26. Cyclone Yaas pounded the beach towns in north Odisha and neighbouring West Bengal as it hit the coast around 9 am on May 26 with a wind speed of 130-140 kmph, inundating the low-lying areas amid a storm surge, HT reported.

Very severe Cyclone Yaas makes landfall over Odisha, Bengal coasts

The weather department has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand. "Light to moderate rainfall expected at most places with heavy to very heavy rains at few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places in Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, and Keonjhargarh today," the IMD said.
