  • Sikkim government announced recently that fully vaccinated tourists can enter the state through Rangpo in East Sikkim and Melli in South Sikkim from July 5. People will just have to show their vaccination certificate.

Sikkim to charge non-resident returnees for Covid-19 tests

Till now, the Sikkim government was not charging any money either from Sikkimese or non-Sikkimese people. The decision was taken to reduce the burden on the state exchequer.

Sikkim records spike in Covid-19 cases, govt defers reopening of schools

On Friday, 50 people, most of whom had returned from Mumbai tested positive for Covid-19. With this, the number of cases reached 62 till Saturday afternoon. Four people have so far been cured.

Paid quarantine for returnees helps Sikkim hotels recover lockdown losses

According to the hotel owners, there has been a huge response from local people returning from other states as they are barred from staying at home but have the option of staying in paid quarantine at hotels. For those who cannot afford hotels, the Sikkim government offers institutional quarantine.

Sikkim reports first Covid-19 case after man who returned from Delhi tests positive

The 25-year-old man who had returned to Sikkim on May 19 was sent to a facility quarantine centre on his return along with 11 others. On May 21, he developed fever and was shifted to STNM Hospital in Gangtok on Friday.

Number of dead yaks could be more than 500, herders tell Sikkim govt
