Jalalabad blasts result of infighting between Taliban factions: Report

The convoys were travelling from Jalalabad (the capital of Nangarhar province) to Kabul. The road from the eastern city to the national capital is dominated by Zadran tribe, whose cadre the Haqqani network that is led by interior minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.

Taliban seizes Afghanistan's Jalalabad, Kabul remains only major stronghold

The Taliban took control of the key eastern city of Jalalabad on Sunday, just hours after the seizing of the northern anti-Taliban bastion of Mazar-i-Sharif -- furthering an astonishing rout of government forces and warlord militias achieved in just 10 days.
