Nobody has any idea how the crocodile came to the temple pond and who named it. But old timers say it has been in the temple pond for more than 70 years and has never had any history of wild behaviour. Babiya’s diet is reported to be offerings from the temple.

On Sunday too, rains lashed many parts of Kerala amid weather forecasts of extremely heavy rainfall in six districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Alappuzha districts.

The state capital Thiruvananthapuram remained worst-affected with 240 new cases and many areas of the city remained under triple lockdown. With 1,103 new cases total went up to 18,098.

The state has reported 587 Covid-19 positive cases so far, of which 87 are still active. North Kerala’s Wayanad and Kasaragod have emerged as hotspots.

Among the seven fresh cases, two are Nizamuddin-returned Tablighi Jamaat members, both from Malappuram. 17 of the 212 Jamaat members found to have attended the Delhi event have tested positive.

The first coronavirus patient, a girl student from Thrissur who returned from Wuhan, is on the path to recovery. Her latest sample, in fact the fifth one, is also negative, doctors at the Thrissur Medical College Hospital said adding one more result was awaited and after that she could go home.

Graphic artist Karan Acharya created the intense-looking vector-style graphic of Lord Hanuman, now seen on car bumpers and T-shirts all over the country, for a local event. The popularity of this graphic has brought Acharya recognition and lot of work assignments. He now wants to copyright the image after a filmmaker used the image for his film’s poster without his permission, says the artist.
