There had been a long-pending proposal to restructure the over 200-year-old defence ministry entity – the Ordnance Factory Board – which, with its 41 ammunition and military equipment production facilities, supplied critical arms and ammunition to the three armed forces and the paramilitary.

Five engineers stranded at Sarchu in Himachal rescued after nine-hour operation

The engineers were returning after repairing army vehicles in Nubra Valley on November 15 when their vehicle broke down at Sarchu and they were stranded due to heavy snowfall with the temperature dipping to minus 15 degrees.

OFBs, DPSUs told to ramp up output after lockdown

Rajnath Singh said such plans were necessary to ramp up production and compensate for the time lost due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Singh spoke to top officials of the OFB and DPSUs, via video conference, and reviewed operational plans as well as their contribution to the fight against the pandemic.

To boost Army’s firepower, upgraded artillery guns to be inducted this month

The Jabalpur-based Gun Carriage Factory, a unit of the OFB, is upgrading the army’s vintage Soviet-origin 130mm M-46 towed artillery pieces to 155 mm 45-calibre standard. (155 mm denotes the diameter of the shell and calibre relates to barrel length.)

Defence products’ exports to exceed 35,000 crore target
