Forex traders said the sharp downfall in the domestic unit came on the heels of a downturn in the Indian equity markets and significant foreign fund outflows.
Rupee vs Dollar Today: On Tuesday, the rupee had opened 82.69 against the dollar. The domestic currency had reached a high of 82.69 and a low of 82.88. Finally, it depreciated by eight paise to settle at 82.70 against USD.
The rupee hit a record low of 83.29 per dollar in that turbulent week, and traders said the RBI had intervened in both the spot and forward markets to contain the slide.
