Gurugram (erstwhile Gurgaon), once considered a satellite town to Delhi, is today one of Haryana’s largest urban centres and a city in its own right. Recent decades have brought Gurugram phenomenal growth – from a population of 870,539 in 2001 to 1,514,085 in 2011, expected to hit 4.3 million by 2020 – and its real estate and development boom have resulted in the third largest increase in per capita income in India.
