Indonesian submarine lost at sea with less than a day's oxygen left

If the Indonesian Navy submarine was still intact, officials said it would only have enough oxygen to last about another 15 hours until early Saturday morning.

PM Modi wants global warship makers to build new submarines for $6.6 billion: Report

France’s Naval Group SA, German Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems GmBH, Swedish Saab Kockums, Spanish Navantia SA and Russian Rosoboronexport OJSC were asked to show if they can transfer technology to build the diesel-electric powered submarines in India, people familiar with the matter said.
The government issued a separate expression of interest on June 20 for an Indian shipyard to build the submarines at a cost of 450 billion rupees ($6.6 billion). The program is already delayed by at least three years.(AFP FILE)

Defence ministry approves Rs 40,000 crore project to build six submarines

The defence ministry on Thursday approved a project worth Rs 40,000 crore for building six advanced submarines in the country under the government’s ‘strategic partnership’ (SP) model to bolster the Indian Navy’s underwater force levels, a defence ministry spokesperson said.
