Till April 28, Haryana school buses can get fitness tests on public holidays too

In a notification issued on Wednesday, transport commissioner Vijay Kumar Joshi said, “The fitness test of school buses which do not possess fitness certificate shall also be done on the public holidays this month -- April 20, 21, 27 and 28, in addition to normal days. The schools should get their buses presented before the board of inspection for test of fitness and grant of fitness certificate, if found, roadworthy.”

This comes after recent inspections, carried out in the backdrop of the Mahendergarh bus mishap, revealed that a number of school buses in the state do not possess valid fitness certificates. The department has halted the inspections as of now. (Yogendra Kumar)

Badaun school bus-van collision: Safety violations by multiple govt agencies exposed

A huge road-cutting that was left unrepaired and apparently failed to draw the authorities’ attention even during the ongoing two month’s state-wide ‘gaddha mukti’ campaign concluding on November 15, has been cited as the most important reason for the accident in a preliminary inquiry.

Wait continues for driving licence aspirants due to delay in opening of training institute in Ludhiana

It has been almost three months since the district administration and the regional transport authority received a notification from the state transport commissioner to open the institute jointly with the Red Cross Society

Got a smart card driving licence? Now, you won’t need an NOC for renewal

Meanwhile, those holding paperback licences will still have to get an NOC from the concerned RTOs for the processes, the transport commissioner’s office said.

Maharashtra autos drivers may not get to refuel vehicles after permit suspended

The Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Department (MMVD) is mulling this step after flying squads of RTOs, in an ongoing drive to curb the menace of rogue drivers, caught 1,296 autorickshaw drivers without a badge, which is mandatory for driving public service vehicles.

At present, once the RTO suspends the permit of an autorickshaw, officials, in absence of any place to detain the vehicle, simply remove the fare metres of the autorickshaws.(HT File)

Car buying gets costly in Delhi as one-time parking charges hiked up to 18 times

The transport department collects the parking charges on behalf of the MCDs, which claim that it is meant for creating parking infrastructure in Delhi. The proposal by the three MCDs to hike the charges was pending for quite sometime and was cleared by the transport commissioner on her last day in office, an official said.
