The top court observed that in present times, no university can afford to have a laid-back attitude, when their own performance is being measured by international standards and therefore, the power of the universities to prescribe enhanced norms and standards, cannot be doubted.

“There are no plans to start physical classes in colleges and universities. Syllabus provided will be shortened. More focus will be given on online classes. We are even thinking of taking 1st-semester exams online,” Chatterjee said.

The delayed academic session for freshers in universities and colleges will begin from November 1, and the winter break this year, the summer vacation in 2021 and other holidays would be curtailed to compensate for the time lost, according to the University Grants Commission.
