Power tariff proposals: UPERC likely to take a call after public hearings on July 8-20

The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) is likely to take a call on the tariff proposals after hearing both the distribution companies and consumers.

The distribution corporations have not directly proposed a rate increase, but have opted for alternative methods to introduce a 40% hike in overall power bill. (FOR REPRESENTATION)

UPERC clears decks for UPPCL to purchase 450 MW wind power

According to its roadmap, UPPCL needs to arrange 21,500 MW of renewable power by 2031-32 to meet its RPO obligations. This includes 8,500 MW of solar power, and 6,500 MW each of wind and hydro power.

It may be noted that the Union Ministry of Power (MoP) has increased the renewable power obligation (RPO) for discoms from 15% in 2023-24 to 29.91% in 2024-25. (Sourced)

Power crisis: Inform public reps, media about reasons for disruption, UPPCL chief tells officials

UPPCL chairman Ashish Kumar Goel directed that wherever there was a disruption in electricity supply due to severe heat, consumers, public representatives, and the media should be informed about the reasons for the disruption and the estimated time for restoration.
