Delhi Police arrest 2 behind online Voter ID racket

Police said that the men established an online network in India to lure gullible people into applying for a voter ID. After the initial enrolment, they would charge ₹650 from each applicant. Police said the men managed to cheat over 10,000 people till date.

The draft bill planning to link Aadhaar, Voter ID is set to be introduced in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing winter session

The bill proposes an amendment of section 23 of the RP Act, 1950, allowing the linking of electoral roll data with the Aadhaar ecosystem to “curb the menace of multiple enrollment of the same person in different places”.(HT File)

Proposed bill on Aadhaar-voter ID linking: Will it be mandatory? 

In 2015, the programme of the Election Commission was stalled as the Supreme Court ordered that the use of Aadhaar will remain optional to avail of welfare schemes.

Cabinet clears bill on electoral reforms, allowing Aadhaar-Voter ID linking

The Election Commission had proposed amendments including linking of the ID card with Aadhaar number which will curb multiple enrollments of the same individual at different places, it said.
