Zaveri Bazaar loses sheen as gold import tariff kicks in

Mumbai, India. May 13, 2026 - Zaveri Bazaar, located in Bhuleshwar, South Mumbai, is India’s largest and most influential gold market. For over 160 years, it has served as the primary hub for the nation’s gold trade, shaping pricing and distribution across the subcontinent. Established in the mid-19th century, Zaveri Bazaar remains central to India’s precious metal industry, with more than 60% of the country’s gold trading and retailing conducted within its narrow lanes.
