Paris is a city that well represents the illustrious past of France. It also stands for all things grand in the world of luxury. There are many things that stunningly convey the Parisian magnificence with wonderful things to see and do. However, in spite of the huge temptation to spend the day in a cafe, letting the French way of life wash over you, it would be a shame to miss the city's many treasures. Here are my favourite 10 things to do, while in Paris.

Wine by One is a unique wine experience of tasting over 100 different kinds of French wines, by the glass. The eclectic bar at this lovely space, which is next to Place Vendome at 9 rue des Capucine, also has wines from all over the world that can be had with a light meal.

The Paris Flea market, also called the Puces de Saint Ouen or Clignancourt, is located north of Montmartre. This is the city's largest flea market that offers everything from used books, leather jackets to precious antique jewellery and Louis XVI furniture. A must visit if you happen to be in Paris on the weekend.

From the streets, one must pick up a fresh out of the oven baguette, one of the most delicious and the cheapest French delicacy. I also highly recommend the Berthillion's delicious ice-cream, which is only available at the gorgeous neighbourhood of ille Saint Louis.

Absolute chicness, with a decor that includes an impressive sculpted glass bar -- the Plaza Athenee Bar is situated at the triangle d'or. After a tough day, it's a great place for a relaxed cocktail. It is also where I have spotted many stars including singers Cher and Katy Perry.

There are many museums to visit in Paris, but one of my most favourite is Centre George's Pompidou, France's top modern art museum with some 56,000 works by more than 5,000 artists. On the premises, there is a library, boutique, bookshop and cafe too.

I always enjoy a lazy walk through the old part of the city, Le Marais. After that, I highly recommend a boat ride on the legendary river Seine. The double decker tour boats are a great way to discover the different arrondissements of Paris.

Making it all the way up the stairs to the Sacre Coeur, which is located on the highest peak of Paris, is a great way to take in the breathtaking panoramic view of the city. The fun-filled atmosphere at the Montmatre, with the various artists and performers is so Parisienne.

For art appreciation, the temporary exhibitions of internationally acclaimed contemporary artists organised at Galerie du Passage are a great visit. The passage is a very quaint place with lots of fascinating restaurants and boutiques.

Collete is the city's original concept store. It offers cutting edge merchandising with designer clothing, shoes, makeup, books, art gallery, perfumes and gadgets. The basement also has a cafe/water bar. It is situated at 213 Rue St Honore. Also, Franck et Fils at 80 rue de Passy has a new shoe department, with 25 shoe brands to choose from.

A visit to L' Artisan Parfumeur, a spacious new store situated at 2 rue de l'Amiral-Coligny, with heady fragrances, scented candles, gorgeous satin sachets and customised perfumes is a truly French experience. They also have interesting workshops on French perfumes by reservation.
