‘Cool to nope’: Post about vinegaroon leaves people with varied thoughts
National Park Service took to Instagram to share the post about vinegaroon.
A post shared by National Park Service has created a buzz and left people with varied thoughts. Taking to Instagram, they shared a descriptive post about a bug called vinegaroon. While the image shared along with the post prompted some to say ‘cool’, others shared that it left them scared.
“It’s a cross between a spider and a scorpion that shoots acetic “vinegar” from a “whip.” That’s it folks. Have a good one,” the park wrote. Then they explained that the bug is called vinegaroon or whip scorpion. “The name "whip scorpion" refers to their resemblance to true scorpions and possession of a whiplike tail, and "vinegaroon" refers to their ability when attacked to discharge an offensive, vinegar-smelling liquid, which contains acetic acid,” they added.
They also explained that “Vinegaroons are about 3 inches long and relatively benign unless you happen to annoy them.” The post also talks about the habitat of the bugs and what they eat.

Since being shared nearly 21 hours ago, the post has gathered more than 80,000 likes and the numbers are only increasing. People shared varied comments to express their reactions.
“I will not be able to sleep tonight knowing this exists in the world!” wrote an Instagram user. “That’s a nope,” commented another.
“Aww, he hearts us. Whip scorpion love,” expressed a third. “I love Vinagaroons! They are so cool and chill,” shared a fourth.
An individual asked “Are they poisonous?” To which, the park replied, “Considered non-poisonous but they can pinch if provoked! They are also capable of spraying a mist from scent glands at the base of the tail when disturbed.”
