Both leaders shared about this fun moment on X. In a translated post, Myung wrote, “A joint performance with Prime Minister Takaichi, where we layered a shared harmony atop our individual rhythms. It felt a bit awkward at first, but with each beat, the sounds came together as one. Playing the drums was a long-held dream of mine, so the time was all the more precious for the Prime Minister’s thoughtful consideration. Thanks to the Prime Minister, we were able to share a special moment, exchanging our true feelings through music. Just as we respected each other’s differences and found our rhythm together, I hope that the two nations of Korea and Japan can deepen their cooperation and take one step closer with each passing moment.” He also posted a video of their jam session.

A part of the Japanese PM’s translated tweet read, “Following the meeting, President Lee Jae-myung and I played the drums together. When we met at the APEC summit last year, he had mentioned that his dream was to play the drums, so I prepared a surprise for him. We performed to ‘Golden’, which won the Best Original Song award at the recent Golden Globe Awards, and BTS’s ‘Dynamite’. President Lee said he was delighted to have fulfilled his long-held dream of playing the drums.”

She added, “At the dinner that followed, President Lee and his wife, along with the South Korean delegation, enjoyed a Japanese meal featuring ingredients generously sourced from Nara.

The world leader rounded off their summit meeting on Tuesday with this unexpected jam session.
