Actor Vivek Dahiya recently had a horrific experience when drunk goons attacked the sets of his shoot, late at night. Following this, the actor, married to actor Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya, has questioned the state of security on television sets and says the industry requires a proper department to look after the safety of the crew.
“I think there should be a separate department; there should be security officers who check things on television sets and ensure the safety of the cast and crew. There should also be a department that should ensure there are checks on sets and those not adhering to the safety regulations are fined,” says Vivek, seen on TV shows such as Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Ek Veer Ki Ardaas...Veera, and Kavach...Kaali Shaktiyon Se.
According to reports, a group of drunk men attacked the unit with swords and even damaged the director’s car. However, no one was seriously injured.
The actor talks about his own experiences on television sets and expresses concern over the negligence.
“There is security hazard everywhere, whether it is about the accommodation provided or security on the sets. It has happened to me before that I parked my car where the production guys asked me to and the wall of the set being built just fell on my car! When I asked them how it happened, all they did was apologise. People are so negligent when they know a temporary structure can get really risky,” he shares.
Talking about the recent incident, where the four security guards were the first ones to flee from the set, Vivek retorts, “I think first, of all the things, there has to be a proper research that needs to be done for it. I got to know later that this area was not safe and the worst area to be shooting in at night. It is also important that the staff which is being hired holds some credibility. I spoke to the bodyguards and got to know that they just look big, but are college students. For security, to just look big is not enough; they need to be prepared for dangerous situations and know their job really well.”
